Description
1990 – ET SYSTEM’S BACKGROUND
Outline introduces ET System, a turntable controlled via computer. The idea came from Guido Noselli, the company’s founder, and was initially intended for in-house use, in order to facilitate measurement of the polar dispersion of the firm’s loudspeakers.
In fact, this device became the most sought-after work tool for (well-known and lesser known) competitors and the world’s most famous sound designers, as well as multinational companies such as Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Samsung, Siemens, Huawei, Nokia, Philips, Pirelli, Bose, Harman International, Pioneer, Martin Audio, Genelec, Infinity, AKG etc. (the long reference list available on request speaks for itself), not to mention authoritative institutions such as MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Synergetic Audio Concept – to give just a couple of examples – and many Universities teaching acoustics worldwide. After thirty years’ life, the ET System is still one of Outline’s best sellers.
THE NEW ET250-3D – AN INDUSTRY STANDARD WORLDWIDE
The new Outline turntable is one of the first measurement systems able to be used in an “open platform” context. Great care has been taken with the product’s “usability” as far as its end users and the software able to control it are concerned. In fact, ET250-3D is fitted with an input/output communications port based on TTL signals.
Some software on the market is able to control it by means of sync signals based on this standard. The new turntable is fitted with a network interface in compliance with TCP/IP protocol standards. The remote control software supplied with the turntable was also entirely developed in Outline’s laboratories. Remote control is via Ethernet (or Internet) with TCP/IP protocol.
More precisely, by means of this communication protocol, users can develop software for controlling their own measurement instruments; at the same time it is therefore possible to synchronize measurement with the mechanical movements of the turntable. As if that was not enough, Outline provides an additional service that consists in supporting software developers with a DLL (dynamic link library) that facilitates interfacing with the turntable.
In this case, there’s no need for control software, but software developed by third parties can interface directly with the ET250-3D. By using the functions implemented in the DLL, not only it is possible to have remote control of commands such as Forward, Back and Stop, but also to set all the variables controlling the turntable itself, such as delays, network addresses etc.
The TCP/IP network protocol enables to control several turntables simultaneously. This feature is extremely useful for loudspeaker enclosure designers, as by using a structure that allows two turntables to be mounted (one in a horizontal position and one in a vertical position), it enables to produce a 3D balloon in a single work session.
This results in enormous time saving and greater precision in measurement logistics.

Description
The Outline Globe Source Radiator is an adjustable multi-directivity sound radiator, intended for use in acoustical measurements for which not only a uniform spherical sound radiation is required, but also a desired directivity, to match various sound sources, from speech to any other acoustic instruments or devices.
The consequently spherical, robust design of the Globe Source Radiator provides a perfectly homogeneous sound field. Thanks to this unique design, reflections at plane surfaces as well as diffractions around sharp edges are virtually impossible. The extremely small diameter and specially shaped loudspeaker membranes assure perfect isotropic directivity.
The Globe Source Radiator is the first dodecahedron system on the market with ‘bass-reflex’ enclosure concept. This type of loading allows to obtain major pressure levels and major extension of the frequency response in the low-frequency zone due to the precise tuning. The loudspeaker membranes’ excursion is limited at the resonance frequency, thus ensuring a higher level of reliability; the bass-reflex channels enable better cooling of the transducers.
Globe Source mounts specially designed transducers that feature a perfectly optimized Phase-Cone and a double Neodymium magnet circuit as well as additional ferrofluid cooling, thus increasing thermal power dissipation and making it possible for Globe Source to handle up to double the power compared to conventional loudspeakers: after two hours of continuous operation at maximum level the temperature reaches only 45°C. Thanks to these features, short-term peaks can be tolerated better and more safely (e.g. for room impulse response measurements). As far as the control of the Globe Source is concerned, Outline recommends using iP24 iMode Digital Loudspeaker Processor. In fact, by using iP24, the Globe Source shall be fully controllable via a dedicated iPhone APP, downloadable from the APP Store. Globe Source needs to be driven by the Outline M Series amplifiers (M2800-4 and/or M5000-4), delivering maximum sound quality with increased headroom and utmost operation reliability.

SPL CONTROL PLUS

Features
- Zero psychoacoustic influence
- Very easy installation
- Compatibility with SPL DOMINA
Applications
- Pubs
- Music-restaurants
- Clubs
- Discoteques
- Bars
- Public venues in general.
Description
SPL Control Plus is a twin stereo signal limiter which can be put to very effective use when it’s necessary to keep the sound emissions of sound reinforcement systems under control in situations in which the problems are not particularly complicated: for systems in venues such as Pubs, Restaurants, Bars and public venues in general SPL Control Plus is the ideal solution.
SPL Control Plus is the first “brick” because, thanks to a simple updating kit, it’s possible to integrate it at any time with the SPL Domina System: this safeguards users’ investments in the event of it being necessary, for any reason to change over to more sophisticated control functions, such as those offered by SPL Domina. For the simple requirements regarding systems
like the aforementioned, which do not generally require numerous articulated interventions to comply with limits set by law (as on the other hands is always the case in discotheques), a unit with just a limiter function is sufficient for the purpose.
But to achieve good acoustic results, even if easily installed and calibrated, a unit which doesn’t let itself be heard is needed. Outline’s SPL Control Plus is a “zero psychoacoustic influence” limiter because, thanks to the circuitry adopted with two daisy-chained stereo limiters with optimised parameters, it manages to psychoacoustically mask its intervention even when the music program requires drastic action.
It’s normally connected between the output of a mixer and the input of an amplifier (or an electronic cross-over in the case of multi-amped systems). SPL Control Plus, which is contained in a small sturdy painted aluminium frame, has balanced inputs and outputs, intervention regulation trimmer and LED indicators which show when the limiter is on and when it has tripped. It is supplied with a tamper-proof front panel (1 rack unit) and a device which locks the connectors on the rear.
